A Promise of Revenge (The Death of Javier) by Terri Kay August Book of the Month
A Promise of Revenge (The Death of Javier) by Terri Kay
A Promise of Revenge (The Death of Javier), a hot new mystery novel, launches the series, A Promise of Revenge, by local author Terri Kay.
What would you do for a loved one? What would you do if you believed that you wouldn't be caught? Decisions on *right* or *wrong* might not always appear to be clear cut. Set primarily in Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin and other states in the Midwest, the series combines medical and legal subplots. The series follows two lovers and their families as key characters face these tough questions, and react surprisingly. When the paths of a stalker, a stripper, a medical student and an all-American girl cross, someone is sure to get hurt. A Promise of Revenge (The Death of Javier), is the story of how far Brian Tanner and other characters are willing to go in the name of love, personal gratification, justice and revenge. From romance to murder, the actions of the characters prompt readers to eagerly ask, *And what happened next?*
... Medical school, two intense lovers and a dying mother who wants a grandchild pressure Brian Tanner to make some tough decisions. He marries Sierra, who is pregnant by another man. Shunned and pregnant by Brian, Dyna hides her pregnancy from him, and gives birth to Javier. But Dyna isn't the only trouble in Brian*s life. His indiscretions force Brian into shady dealings with a dangerous criminal. Blackmail, threats of exposure and scandal, and murders complicate their lives as this tale follows Brian, Dyna and their families through years of mystery and intrigue. Repeatedly, the characters face the question of what they would do for a loved one, with some surprising answers.

Year of No Rain by Alice Mead
Kid's Book Corner
Year of No Rain   by Alice Mead
In the spring of 1999, hunger and thirst are constant companions to eleven-year-old Stephen and his family and friends in their southern Sudan village. Stephen wants to go back to his books, but the village school is closed because of civil war between the northern soldiers and the southern rebels. When bombs explode in their small village, Stephen's mother tells him and his friends to quickly pack, and they run and hide before they can be caught by the enemy soldiers. Stephen leaves with a few precious possessions, wondering if each step will bring him closer to water, food, and freedom -- and maybe home again someday.
