BANNED BOOKS WEEK - September 29th - October 3rd, 2008
Celebrating the Freedom to Read has been observed during the last week of September each year since 1982. This year marks the 27th anniversary of Banned Books Week and this annual ALA event is to remind Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. Banned Books Week celebrates the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one's opinion even if that opinion might not be considered unorthodox or unpopular. If you have ever been curious about what books have been challenged and why, visit your local library and ask to see a list and look at our display of "banned books" and perhaps even venture forth and check one of those banned books out to read.
