DROP-IN PRESCHOOL CHRISTMAS STORYHOUR ... The Schoolcraft Community Library will host their annual Christmas Drop-In Storyhours for children ages 3-5 years on the first three Wednesdays in December (Dec. 3rd, 10th, 17th). It will be held from 10:00-10:45 A.M. There will be Christmas stories, fingerplays, songs, crafts and snacks. Pre-registration is not necessary for these three story times, so come and join us when you can. Call the library at 679-5959 if you have any questions.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
The 15th annual Battle of the Books at the Schoolcraft Community Library officially began on Friday, October 24th with the release of the "Booklist". The booklist is available at the Schoolcraft Upper Elementary School, the Schoolcraft Community Library and the Vicksburg District Library.

BROWN BAG STORYHOUR
... The Schoolcraft Community Library
will host the November Brown Bag Storyhour for students in Young Fives and Kindergarten
from 11:10-11:50 A.M. on Wednesday, November 19th.
Students should bring a brown bag lunch, a drink
(No red or
purple
drinks please), and be ready for some fun!!! The theme this month will be Food !! Morning students may ride the bus to the library, but do need a permission slip to do so. See you there. Call the library at 679-5959 with any questions.

Students will be listening to the books Twenty and Ten by Claire Huchet Bishop and The Hideout by Eve Bunting and must have permission slips to participate. |

TOT TIME
--- Wednesdays in November
The Schoolcraft Community Library will be hosting its Tot Time for children ages 18 to 36 months and their parents. This story hour will take place from 9:30-10:30 A.M. on November 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th. This is a parent child activity and includes about 20 minutes of stories, fingerplays, songs and activities followed by 35 minutes of free play. It is a wonderful time for children and their parents to interact together as well as a time for parents to connect with other parents. Your child must be pre-registered and this can be done by calling the library at 679-5959. Space is limited so call today! |

INTERNET POLICY AT THE SCHOOLCRAFT COMMUNITY LIBRARY ... In effect as of March 26th, 2008, the Internet Use policy now states that a current library card or a piece of Government issued identification (ie., Driver's license, voter's registration card, a student ID., etc.) must be presented to use the internet. Also, if you are under 18 years of age, a parent's signature will be required to access the Internet. Wireless Internet access is also available at the library and though ID is not required to access this service, the library does require a patron signature after reading the Wireless Internet Policy and to abide by those same guidelines as those using library computers. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the library at 679-5959.

for kids from the library's web page by clicking on the TumbleBook link.
TumbleBook is a collection of animated, talking picture books and TumblePuzzles and Tumble Games.
These are created from existing picture books which have been licensed from children's book publishers and
converted into the TumbleBook format. You can play TumbleBook at the library, from home, or even while on vacation!!!
This is an exciting new offering at the Schoolcraft Community Library and we hope parents and kids will take advantage of it. ENJOY!!

QSAC: Quality Service Audit Checklist
-SCHOOLCRAFT LIBRARY ATTAINS "ESSENTIAL LEVEL" OF QUALITY SERVICES FROM LIBRARY OF MICHIGAN - The Schoolcraft Community Library is proud to announce that it is one of 10 Class II libraries in Michigan who have qualified for the Essential Level requirements from the Quality Services audit checklist known as QSAC. There are seven categories of achievement which include human resources, governance/administration, services, collections development, technology, facilities and equipment and public relations/marketing. By focusing on these key areas the Schoolcraft Library has demonstrated a strong commitment to customer service. There are 78 class libraries in the State of Michigan and so the Schoolcraft Community Library is proud to have been one of the first 10 to have achieved this goal. |
NOTE: LASER JET CARTRIDGE RECYCLING PROGRAM ... The Schoolcraft Community Library regrets to inform its patrons that the Laser Jet Recycling Program has once again been discontinued. You can still recycle your ink jet cartridges and any old cell phones as well in the bags provided at the library, but laser jet cartridges will no longer be accepted. You may be able to dispose of them through Office Max or there is a recycling center near the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds. Many thanks for your support of this program while it lasted.

NATIONAL GAMING DAY AT THE SCHOOLCRAFT COMMUNITY LIBRARY

Saturday, November 15th
----- For the first time ever, there will be a National Gaming
Day in libraries across the nation and Schoolcraft Community Library will be one of those libraries.
From 10 A.M. to 1 P.M.
the library will host a variety of games for children of all ages.
Also, the new board game PICTUREKA will be featured. This is a perfect game for families as it is
for ages 6 to 106. Each game takes 30 minutes or less to play, so why not take a break from the
Saturday morning hum drums and come to the library and play a game!!!!

What is National Gaming Day? ... In the 21st century, libraries are about much more than books. On Saturday, November 15, 2008, hundreds of libraries throughout the country will showcase gaming programs and services in support of National Gaming Day @ your library (NGD). Gaming of all types at the library encourages young patrons to interact with a diverse group of peers, share their expertise with others (including adults), and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. Plus, it's a way for traditionally underserved groups to have fun in the library and interact with other members of the community. ... LEARN MORE
LITERACY LUNCH ---There is a brand new program being offered through the cooperation of the Schoolcraft Community Library and the Schoolcraft Upper Elementary School and it is called "Literacy Lunch." This program is being offered to the students in 3rd thru 6th grades several times throughout the school year. Students in 3rd and 5th grades will be the first ones to have the opportunity to sign up for this program. It will be offered during their lunch hours and those students who have pre-registered will be allowed to bring their lunch to the Upper Elementary School library three days a week to have a chapter book read to them while they eat their lunch. The program will begin Monday, September 22nd and run for 2-3 weeks, allowing time to complete each book. The 4th and 6th grade students will have the opportunity to participate in November.
